In general, for a production server you ll want to adapt the stop-start daemon script on the Catalyst wiki (mentioned previously) to avoid manual intervention to get your application running. Next, you need to configure Apache to tell it where to send requests. First, you ll want to configure a user-friendly error page that informs the user when the back end is not running or is otherwise unreachable: Alias /_errors /var/www/MyApp/root/error-pages ErrorDocument 502 /_errors/502.html Next, you ll want to serve static content directly through the web server, as previously: Alias /static /usr/local/lib/root/static Finally, you tell Apache where to listen to the socket or port. With a socket listener this is as follows: FastCgiExternalServer /tmp/myapp.fcgi -socket /tmp/myapp.socket Alias /myapp/ /tmp/myapp.fcgi/ And with a TCP/IP listener it s this: FastCgiExternalServer /tmp/myapp.fcgi host my.host.name.or.ip.address:8080 Alias /myapp/ /tmp/myapp.fcgi/ Note that it doesn t really make much sense to run the external server as a TCP/IP service if it s running on the same machine, but this might happen for historical reasons (e.g., server moves) from time to time. For lighttpd, the FastCGI module is handled by mod_fastcgi, which is included in the lighttpd distribution and compiled in by default. While with rewrite rules, it should be possible to configure lighttpd to do dynamic FastCGI deployment, this technique is only really useful for shared hosting environments. Seeing as how shared hosting is generally not available with lighttpd servers, we won t cover this. The configuration for static and dynamic servers for lighttpd is rather similar. Recall that we provided a complete but basic lighttpd configuration option when discussing the HTTP::Prefork deployment method. We can recycle all of this right up to the $HTTP["url"] ! "/static/" line. Fuzzy searches are particularly useful given misspellings, typographical errors, and OCR scanning errors. If existing data is the source for a table, using a subquery can speed up the process.
